The tobacco industry is relentless in targeting the GLBTA (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Allies) community. They use bar promotions, sponsorships, and advertisements in the queer press to increase the addiction and disease caused by tobacco use.
Increasingly, GLBTA communities are liberating themselves from tobacco by choosing to live smokefree.

Fact: Half of all people who smoke will ultimately die from it-- tobacco kills more GLBTA people than any other health issue

Did you know the average successful quitter has tried *11* times? Never 'quit' quititng! The good news is that there is lots of help out there, including a quitline that gives free patches, and free online programs that can help you quit- for good.
Love a smoker- help fight the smoke
Supporting a loved one who is struggling to quit or isn't ready to quit yet can be difficult. Check out the American Cancer Society's tips for protecting yourself from secondhand smoke and providing the encouragement that can mean the difference between staying quit and not.

The American Lung Asociation has been "fighting for air" in Alaska since the early 20th century. Today, ALA is working towards clean air, healthy lungs, and smokefree spaces.
The Alaska Tobacco Control Alliance was formed in 1992 to create a statewide network of health advocates to develop, support, and sustain comprehensive tobacco control programs. ATCA's mission is to create conditions for Alaskans to live free from the harmful effects of tobacco.

We are excited to start to planning our activites for this year's Pridefest. We are in support of a completely smoke free event, and received great feedback from the attendees last year! 80% of the 2012 attendees, both smokers and non-smokers, are in support of our movement. Alaska Pride Conference was held in Anchorage on October 20, 2012. This year's conference included the second annual Youth Summit which attracted youth from all over Alaska, not just Anchorage. Don't worry, we will be back next year with more slinky's.
Thanks to the other vendors, the Millenium Hotel and Alaska Pride for allowing us to showcase our information.
